True-to-Life Drawing

Instructor: Naomi Kugler

Students will create accurate to life sketches from photos and still life. Sketches will be used to create graphite, colored pencil, pastel, ink, and water colored final pieces.

Students will need patience and careful observation skills.

Students will need a pad of multi media paper of at least 90 pound thickness. They will also need high quality sketch pencils, a blending stump, needed eraser, gum eraser, and a set of Prisma colored pencils.

We will focus on accurate sketches created mostly in pencil. Students will learn how to grid to enlarge a photo and draw it with correct proportions.

Sketches will be made from more detailed images. We will work on texture, fur, and hair. We will practice using other media to add color.

We will be working on the human face. We will sketch each feature until we are confident enough to do an entire face with photo realism.
