From Homer’s The Odyssey to Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring, we will explore the hero’s journey throughout literature and discover the many different forms this journey can take. Each week we will engage with these timeless stories through close reading strategies, class discussions & activities, as well as a variety of writing prompts & styles. Join me as we bring the Hero's Journey to life!
What should you expect?
To read every week, both in and out of class.
To write consistently and often.
To actively engage in meaningful discussion & activities during class time.
You will need a composition notebook, reliable access to Schoology for links to short stories & poems, and a copy of each of the required novels:

Antigone, by Sophocles *translation TBD
Macbeth, by William Shakespeare *No Fear Shakespeare recommended
The Fellowship of the Ring, by J.R.R. Tolkien

The Hiding Place, by Corrie Ten Boom
