Phonics and Reading

In this class students will learn the names of letters and the sounds they make. We will focus on vowel sounds and begin reading blends and words. The information will be taught and reviewed through movement and interactive activities.

Students will need magnetic letters and white board. Joycat is a good brand.

The first section will focus on vowels and their short sounds. Students will be able to identify and "read" the letters when they see them. As soon as all the vowels are learned, students will begin reading consonant vowel blends.

We learn the rest of the alphabet and the letter sounds. Students will begin to read short vowel words.

Students will learn the long vowel sounds and special sounds that will enable them to become real readers.
