All Aboard the Reading Train

Reading books can be fun and you will learn to love books in this class!  This year’s class will include a greater variety of activities like acting out skits, creating posters, dioramas, and games.  There will be art projects in which students demonstrate what they have learned in creative ways.  Each week we will have a read-aloud story by the teacher with a discussion following.  Biblical values will be emphasized and a Bible verse of the week will be part of the lesson.  Students will make personal connections to their real- life experiences.  We will focus on reading comprehension skills by having students do fun learning projects.  Reading concepts will include describing characters and setting, discovering how characters change and grow over time, comparing books, sequencing events, identifying the main idea and author’s purpose, exploring different types of literature, and expressing our thoughts and feelings.  Each student will receive the support they need to feel successful in all we do in class.

Students will need 3 Ring Binder and Standard Sheet protectors
