Instructor: Ingrid Moss
Do you think about developing your artistic side? If so, join us for a fun time exploring artists from different periods in art history and the art techniques they used. Then try using those techniques yourself in artwork you create. Incorporate the elements of art as we delve deeper into the study of perspective, shading, lighting, texture, and color. Work individually on your drawings, paintings and prints, as well as in small groups with your friends to create posters and murals that can be displayed. Create collages with mixed media. Dabble in black and white drawings with pen and ink, making prints, cartoon art, graphic art, pop-art, folk art, geometric design art, and abstract art as the year goes on. You will have a chance to talk about your artwork with your classmates in weekly discussions. Bible verses and perspectives will enter into our discussions as we talk about glorifying God in how we use our talents. We will explore how art has been used to glorify God in the past how it can be used appropriately in the present. We can discuss the world views of famous and contemporary artists. Students can reflect on what styles and artistic themes a Christian should participate in; themes they want their own art to express, and what impression of themselves will they create on others through their art and attitudes. There will be a weekly homework assignment which can include a report, video critique, a piece of art critique, a reflection journal entry, or a sketch, drawing, or painting of your own creation. I will try to arrange a field trip to the University of Arizona art department or the Tucson Museum of Art.
Students will need 3 Ring Binder; standard sheet protectors; reflection journal; 8 1/2 X 11 sketch pad.
